Today was an active one! We started out with more circus skills where we tested our strength and balance with some pretty ambitious human pyramids. We also got to train on the trampoline with the resident trampoline artist, Ashley (didn't catch his last name!) from the UK who is working with the circus students.
In the afternoon we spilt into two groups, girls and boys. The girls stayed at Phare with Ms Natalya to complete the painting project we started yesterday, see pictures of the completed wall in the next post. The boys with me and Mr Bacallao went on the bike tour run by Butterfly tours. Tomorrow the girls will go on the bike tour and the boys will continue with the community project at the Kindergarten.

The bike tour was named "traditional livelihoods". Students rode for 25km in the surrounding area of Battambang and got to see first hand how many Cambodian people make their living and the amount of labour and hard work that goes into making their produce for not much money at all. For example, we visited a family who make rice paper for spring rolls and learnt that a bundle of 100 rice papers is sold for just $2. Each home we visited showed us the process that goes into making their produce which included, dried banana; rice noodles; rice wine and bamboo rice cake. As well as learning about local produce, the scenery was very beautiful and green. It was nice to be in a rural area with the slower pace of life and clean fresh air, a nice break from Phnom Penh...well... except for the Prahok (fish paste) factory, that was a very stinky and quick visit!!
